You Don’t Need Permission to Lead

"You’re not too much. You’re just ahead of your time."

You Don’t Need Permission to Lead

I remember the meeting clearly.

I had just presented a multi-million dollar plan for an equipment—critical to keeping a flagship hardware launch on track. There was silence.

And then a man on the team repeated the exact same idea I had just pitched. This time, people nodded. Someone even said, “Great thinking.”

That was the moment I realized: I wasn’t imagining it. I wasn’t being sensitive. I was being erased.

But here’s what I also realized: I didn’t need permission to lead.

We’ve Been Taught to Wait

From the beginning, we’re taught subtle rules:

  • Be likable, but not too assertive.
  • Be smart, but don’t make others uncomfortable.
  • Let your work speak for itself.

Except it doesn’t. Not always. Not in rooms that weren’t designed for you to be heard.

I waited for years to be “ready” before I went after roles I was already qualified for. I downplayed my wins. I made myself smaller to fit into places I had outgrown.

Until I stopped.

What Changed? I Did.

I started owning the scale of my impact.

  • ✅ Leading multi-million dollar infrastructure spend across global suppliers
  • ✅ Took hardware from messy prototypes to mass production greenlights
  • ✅ Said the uncomfortable truths — especially when silence was expected

And you know what? That’s when momentum hit. Promotions, better roles, real visibility. Not because the system changed.

But because I did.

This is Your Permission Slip — To Stop Asking

If you’re a woman in tech leadership—or on your way there—this is your reminder:

  • You’re not intimidating. You’re clear.
  • You’re not “too ambitious.” You’re visionary.
  • You’re not behind. You’re building in a system that wasn’t built for you.

And still… you’re rising.
